  • Dr. Cynthia Zurchin

    Studio Director

    Cynthia began dancing at 2 years of age and started teaching dance in 1981. In 1988 she opened Cynthia’s School of Dance. She expands and hones her skills by attending workshops taught by experts across the United States. Cynthia is one of the most knowledgeable and experienced teachers in the Pittsburgh area specializing in making dance FUN while teaching dance technique. In 1997 she received her Doctorate of Education Degree from Duquesne University. Many call her the “Doctor of Dance.” Several of her dancers have gone on to perform professionally around the world with Disney, Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships, Sesame Street, and Busch Gardens. Cynthia’s School of Dance is an atmosphere that is positive for students and parents focused on building confidence, self-control, responsibility and thinking skills. Cynthia continues to train new dance teachers to teach proper technique while making dance fun and helping all students reach their fullest potential. Cynthia is trained in teaching yoga for children in recreational and school settings. She is a former public school teacher, principal and superintendent. She is also the mother of John and Nick who love to dance.

  • Eileen Scholtz

    Baton and Dance Instructor

    Eileen began teaching dance at Cynthia’s in 1992. Eileen is trained as a ballet, tap and jazz teacher. In addition, she is an outstanding baton instructor. Eileen’s personality and her patience with children are the perfect combination for a great teacher. She enjoys working with our young dancers and helping them progress and grow into graceful ballerinas. Many of Eileen’s students have gone on to be feature performers at high schools, universities and in the entertainment industry. Eileen is the mother of Kim and Susan and is the grandmother of Dylan, Alaina and Anthony.

  • Jenny Gross

    Dance Instructor

    Jenny has been teaching dance at Cynthia’s since 2001, and has been actively involved in dance all of her life. As a student of dance she developed strong technique in tap, ballet, and jazz. Jenny continued taking lessons and taught dance at Westminster College where she was a member of the dance company. Upon graduation, she worked for a public relations agency. Currently, Jenny is the Director of Corporate Marketing Communications. Jenny enjoys teaching children of all ages as well as adult dancers at the studio. Her favorite “job” is that of being a mom to her beautiful daughter, Meredith, who shares Jenny’s passion for dance. Jenny is thrilled to continue sharing her love of dance with both her daughter and her students.

  • Kaylin Treese

    Dance Instructor

    Kaylin began teaching dance at Cynthia’s in 2014. Kaylin Treese began her dance training at the age of four at the Allegheny Ballet Company. She studied with Deborah Anthony, Cristin Burwell, Connor Weigand, Richard Cook and Jennifer Bryan, among others. Kaylin has attended summer programs at Allegheny Ballet Company, American Academy of Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and Bodiography Contemporary Ballet Company. She is certified in Pilates and Bodiography Fitness and Strength. Kaylin continued her dance education at La Roche College having earned a B.A. in Performing Arts and Dance, December 2014. Kaylin became an apprentice in 2012 with Bodiography Contemporary Ballet, a professional dance company under the direction of Maria Caruso. She was promoted as a full time company artist in 2015.

  • Kaitlyn Tagliaferre

    Dance Instructor & Choreographer

    Kaitlyn began teaching dance at Cynthia’s in 2015. She has been dancing since the age of three. Kaitlyn has attended summer intensive programs including Point Park University’s International Summer Dance, Mercyhurst University’s Summer Intensive and The Radio City Rockette’s Summer Intensive. Kaitlyn provides her students with encouraging, motivating, and nurturing instruction. She emphasizes correct technique in all genres of dance as a means to prevent injury and enable students to achieve their full potential. Dance class with Kaitlyn is always fun and helps students reach their goals in and outside of the dance class. She has choreographed in Bodiography’s Multiplicity and danced professionally in Multiplicity performing in choreography by Greer Reed and Maria Caruso. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Performing Arts – Dance from LaRoche College, May, 2015. She is also certified in Bodiography Fitness and Strength.

  • Kailey Woistman

    Dance Instructor

    Kailey began teaching dance at Cynthia’s in 2016. She began dancing at the age of 3 and trained at Cynthia’s for 16 years in multiple areas of dance including tap, ballet, jazz and contemporary. Kailey has also participated in dance trainings with the Rockettes, Kathryn Mccormick, Dejan Tubic, Seth Zibalese, and more. She attended Shaler Area High School and was the captain of the dance team. Kailey has won numerous awards at dance competitions throughout the state. Kailey is currently studying early childhood and special education at LaRoche College and will be graduating in 2020. Her passion for dance grows every day. She loves teaching the next generation of dancers at Cynthia’s!

  • Derrick Izumi

    Dance Instructor & Choreographer

    Derrick began teaching at Cynthia’s in 2017. He is currently a dance major at LaRoche College. Derrick is an experienced professional dancer, teacher and choreographer who has studied ballet, jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance both in Hawaii and Pennsylvania. He seeks to teach dancers how to move with the music they dance to, rather than simply beside it. Derrick is a very caring and adaptable teacher helping all of his students learn using both counts and music.

  • Katherine Bell

    Voice & Piano Teaacher

    Katherine began teaching in 2017 at Cynthia’s. Praised by the Broad Street Review in Philadelphia for her “lovely lyric voice”, soprano Katherine Bell has performed across the United States and abroad. Ms. Bell is skilled in cabaret, musical theater, opera and religious performance and trainings. In addition to performing, Ms. Bell loves inspiring the same creativity and passion for music in her private students! Covering all genres and styles of music, her lessons focus on developing proper and sound foundational technique so that the singer can perform all different styles of music without fear of damaging their voices. She received her Master of Music degree from Peabody Institute of John Hopkins University in 2016 and a Bachelor of Music degree from Temple University in 2014.

  • Kate Lehr

    Dance Instructor & Choreographer

    Kate began teaching at Cynthia’s in 2017. She is a dual major at LaRoche College focused on dance performance and Child and Family Studies. She has also studied dance at Bodiography Center for Movement and the Ballet Academy of Pittsburgh. Kate makes each class special for her dancers using props and an active imagination. Kate also has experience working with special needs students. Kate absolutely loves the atmosphere at Cynthia’s where students learn dance technique while having Fun!

  • Jeff Shade

    Guest Choreographer

    Jeff periodically comes to Cynthia's to lead workshops and teach our students. Jeff was mentored by Bob Fosse and has danced on Broadway in Fosse's Sweet Charity, Teddy & Alice, and Chicago (where he was the dance captain for the Broadway and national tours). He is an accomplished dancer, choreographer, and director. Jeff and Cindy have been friends for many years and plan to author articles addressing dance education. As Jeff says, "Cindy is the Doctor of Dance."
